the routine remains

the hardest part
it is never the goodbye
all these fare thee wells
I don't even try
whether you're still around
the day's much the same
with or without you
the routine remains
I still wake up
in an unmade bed
with the glimpse of a dream
that's fading fast from my head
I still brush my teeth
and tie back my hair
and I'll even press my nice shirts
here and there
I still drive to a city
full of despair
I still transact with salesmen
who won't hardly care
and that's just the thing
everything's still the same
the troubles add up, but
the routine remains
I still go to work
and line up rank and file
I still sit at my desk
and I space out for awhile
and I still return home
and turn on the stove
I still cook up a fresh meal
that you would approve
I still wind down
with a show or a tune
I still wonder why
they send men to the moon
so in a sense there's no difference
in a sense I'm doing fine
in a sense I'm doing better
than when I saw you last time
and that's just the thing
everything's still the same
the troubles add up, but
the routine remains

caught in the act
03:14
|

there will be:
no closing remarks and
no apt culmination
no wry epilogue and
no consummation
no bow and applause
no exit stage direction
no final encore and
no standing
ovation
stuck out in the midst
caught up in the Act II
weighed under the curve
of an inverted U
the first plot point
it cut me right through
but then the second one
was never even introduced
the action it rises
but it's all déjà vu
my soliloquy now
so long overdue
so long overdue
it's a Bildungsroman
with no lesson learned
it's in media res
with no denouement earned

season two
05:01
|
|||
somehow, I got through winter
with my shingles still intact
and my ridge board still rigid
at least by passing glance
and the downpipe still upright
so to carry melted snow
and the step stones still sturdy
so to move me to and fro
today, the varnish it shimmers
along the window frames and sill
as the sun peers in above the hedgeline
and the gardens start to fill
but spring won't feel the same
since the 9th month held no trace
of a 100 moons gone missing
to an intercepted Fate
who left me this condition
where forever at my side
is a gnawing splinter sticking in
and sunk too deep to find
with no surfacing remnant
now a constant underneath
like a wood hull capsized offshore
becomes integral with the reef

fair & sqr Geelong, Australia
FAIR & SQR is a collaboration between man and machine, featuring myself as a guest artist and you, perhaps, as listener. Described as "real outsider music" by a person who paints people, this work explores themes of tradition, technology, and alienation through the unrefined use of monospace font and stereophonic sound. ... more
